Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1868 as a fraternity like no other. The Founding Fathers at the Virginia Military Institute stood up for their beliefs in love, honor, and truth and made that the foundation of this organization. Since its founding, Sigma Nu has become one of North America's largest fraternal organizations with over 200,000 men initiated and over 250 chapters and colonies.

Sigma Nu has a long and storied history at LSU - the Phi Chapter was founded in 1887 and thrived for over 100 years. In the Spring of 2007, The Phi Colony was officially reestablished to bring Sigma Nu back to LSU. After a year of hard work and dedication by the undergraduate candidates and the chapter's alumni, the colony was officially rechartered as the Phi Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity on April 5, 2008.
